Last updated: September 2026

Efficient and safe lifting operations are hardly conceivable without reliable load handling attachments. At Baumgart heben und sichern, you will find a selection of high-quality solutions that have proven themselves in everyday use. Whether transporting metal sheets, moving heavy loads or working flexibly with crane systems – our load handling attachments help you to carry out your work processes precisely and safely.

Load handling attachments for cranes: indispensable for efficient work

Load handling attachments are central components in the field of load movement and are part of the basic equipment of modern lifting and conveying technology. Especially in combination with a crane, they play a decisive role in lifting and transporting heavy loads – safely, precisely and efficiently.

But where exactly are load handling attachments used? They have become indispensable in many industries: in mechanical engineering, metalworking, construction, logistics and shipbuilding, they support the safe movement of a wide variety of materials – from solid metal sheets and bulky components to delicate parts.

Whether stationary overhead cranes, gantry cranes or mobile lifting systems – load handling attachments for cranes can be used universally and ensure that heavy loads can be moved in a controlled and ergonomic manner. At the same time, they make a significant contribution to safety in the workplace by preventing accidents caused by improper transport.

How do you choose the right load handling attachment?

Four factors are decisive when selecting the right load handling attachment: the maximum load capacity required for the load, the shape and nature of the goods to be lifted (e.g. steel girders, metal plates or ferromagnetic workpieces), the area of use (stationary overhead crane, gantry crane or mobile lifting system) and the required mobility when moving the load. Beam clamps are suitable for steel girders, plate clamps for sheets and plates or – for smooth, ferromagnetic surfaces – lifting magnets. If the load handling attachment is to travel along a girder, push trolleys or geared trolleys are the right choice. In any case, conformity with standards and CE marking of the selected product are important. If you are unsure, our team will be happy to advise you individually.

Our product selection of load handling attachments

In the range of Baumgart heben und sichern, you will find a large selection of load handling attachments that are specially tailored to different requirements. Each lifting device is developed for a specific area of use – for efficient work and a high level of safety.

Beam clamps

Beam clamps are used for quick and secure attachment to steel girders and are often used for the temporary set-up of lifting points. They are ideal for construction projects or assembly work and impress with easy handling and a high load capacity.

Plate clamps/lifting clamps

These clamps have been specially developed for handling metal sheets. Lifting clamps provide a secure hold and enable the vertical or horizontal transport of metal plates. The combination of a high level of safety and user-friendliness makes them a standard in metalworking.

Push trolleys

Push trolleys allow load handling attachments to travel flexibly along a girder. They are easy to move and provide greater mobility when using cranes or rail systems.

Geared trolleys

Geared trolleys offer particularly precise control of movement via a hand chain wheel. This makes them ideal for applications in which exact positioning of the load is required.

Lifting magnets

Lifting magnets are a good choice when it comes to lifting ferromagnetic workpieces without a mechanical connection. They are suitable for flat or round metal sheets, offer a secure hold without damaging the surface and are ideal for use in warehousing or production.

Quality for safety: what you should look for when buying load handling attachments

Safety is the top priority when selecting load handling attachments. Faulty or inferior products can endanger not only the loads but also human lives. This is why only tested and certified load handling attachments from well-known manufacturers should be used.

Important quality features are:

  • CE marking and conformity with EN 13155 (Cranes – Safety – Non-fixed load lifting attachments)

  • Documented inspection and regular maintenance

  • Specification of the maximum load capacity

  • Robust materials and high-quality workmanship

Also make sure that the product suits the specific area of use – be it a load handling attachment for cranes, a plate clamp or a lifting magnet.

Maintenance and inspection of load handling attachments

As work equipment, load handling attachments must be inspected regularly by a competent person – in Germany in accordance with the Industrial Safety Regulation (BetrSichV), as a rule at least once a year and more frequently depending on frequency of use and stress; in other countries, the respective national regulations apply. In addition, a visual inspection before each use is part of safe handling: look out for deformation, cracks, wear on moving parts and the legibility of load capacity information and markings. Damaged or expired load handling attachments must no longer be used. You can find detailed instructions in our guide Inspection of load handling attachments (in German), and we will be happy to carry out the inspection for you through our inspection service – including a collection and delivery service within Germany.

Frequently asked questions about load handling attachments

Slinging equipment (e.g. roundslings, lifting chains) connects the load to the crane hook and transmits the pulling force. Load handling attachments such as beam clamps, plate clamps or lifting magnets are attached directly to the crane hook and pick up the load themselves – for example by clamping, gripping or magnetic holding. Both systems are often used together, but perform different tasks.

This depends on the material to be moved and the required handling. Beam clamps are suitable for quick attachment to steel girders. Plate clamps are used for the safe handling of sheets and plates. Push trolleys and geared trolleys are used for flexible travel along a girder. And for low-contact lifting of ferromagnetic workpieces without damaging the surface, lifting magnets can be used.

Yes, as work equipment, load handling attachments must be inspected regularly by a competent person – as a rule at least once a year (in Germany in accordance with the Industrial Safety Regulation (BetrSichV); in other countries, the respective national regulations apply). You can find details on the procedure and inspection obligations in our guide Inspection of load handling attachments (in German). We will also be happy to carry out the inspection for you through our inspection service.

This depends on the respective product.

Product Load capacity
Beam clamps 1,000 – 10,000 kg
Plate clamps 500 – 30,000 kg
Push trolleys 500 – 10,000 kg
Geared trolleys 500 – 30,000 kg
Lifting magnets 100 – 2,000 kg

You can find the maximum load capacity in the respective product description.

Both are used for handling metal sheets, but they work differently. A plate clamp holds the sheet mechanically by clamping force and is suitable for almost any material. A lifting magnet holds ferromagnetic workpieces with minimal contact by magnetic force, enabling particularly gentle lifting. However, this only works with magnetisable materials such as steel.
